Champagne Light Oak Elite Capped Composite Step Nosing

A Light, Warm Oak Edge for Stairs, Borders & Raised Decks

Our Champagne Light Oak Elite Capped Composite Step Nosing finishes steps, staircases and picture-frame borders in a soft, natural oak tone that brings warmth to a deck without going dark. It is built to sit alongside our Champagne Light Oak Elite boards for a seamless run from tread to edge.

Steps and outer edges take the heaviest footfall and the worst of the weather, and a cheap trim shows it fast. This capped nosing gives a smooth, professional bullnose edge in a light oak shade that suits brighter, more open gardens, pale render, cream and white walls, and any scheme where you want the space to feel larger and more welcoming.

Like every board in our Elite range, this step nose is wrapped in Tough Shield Technology, a fully bonded polymer shell over a heavy-duty composite core. That outer barrier keeps the edge scuff-resistant, slip-resistant and sealed against moisture exactly where foot traffic is heaviest.

Whether you are edging a bright garden-room deck, a coastal-style terrace or a raised balcony you want to keep feeling airy, this profile delivers the clean lines and light, natural finish a high-end build calls for.

Planning a complex step layout? Step returns and riser clearances can take a bit of extra thought during subframe construction. Give our team a call before cutting your timber, and we can run through the exact spacings with you.

Designed for High Footfall & Weather Exposure

Made from our dense blend of 60% Recycled Wood Fibre and 40% High-Density Plastic and sealed in the Tough Shield cap, this profile will Never Rot, Split, or Warp under heavy use.

Sure Footing on Wet Steps: Grip matters most on stairs, especially through a damp UK winter. The embossed tread and rounded front edge give your foot something to key into, cutting the slip risk where it counts.

UV & Weather Resistance: Because the profile is fully capped, it shrugs off the UV fade and weathering that catch out uncapped boards. The Champagne Light Oak tone holds its soft, light character from day one, with none of the greying or blotchy fade you get on untreated timber or cheaper composite.

Scuff & Stain Resistance: Mud, boots and dragged furniture always hit the step edge first. The outer shield stops it griming in, so a busy light-toned edge wipes clean with nothing more than warm soapy water, which matters on a paler colour.

Champagne Light Oak Finish: Colour-matched to our Champagne Light Oak Elite deck boards. A gentle light-oak tone with a deep 3D embossed woodgrain on the tread for grip, running into a smooth drop nose for a clean, bright edge.

Every Elite step nosing is backed by our full 15-Year Commercial & Domestic Guarantee.

⚠️ Essential Step Installation Notes

Standard Step Dimensions: Pairing 1 step nosing with 1 full 145mm board behind it creates a comfortable ~290mm tread depth. Combined with a 145mm riser board, this gives a standard ~190mm step rise, so there’s no need to cut boards down their length on site.

Subframe Support: Always ensure the step nosing overhang is fully supported by an additional joist or solid timber double-noggin beneath the stair tread front edge.

300mm Joist Spacing: Stair risers and step joist centres must not exceed 300mm to ensure rigid support along the nosing edge and maintain guarantee compliance.

Technical Information

About The Step Nosing

Champagne Light Oak is the lightest tone in our Elite capped range, a warm, natural oak shade that brightens a deck and pairs beautifully with pale render and lighter board colours. Like the rest of the range it is fully shielded with Tough Shield Technology, so a protective polymer shell completely encapsulates the board core, giving a UV-locked colour, a wipe-clean surface, and long-term protection against staining where foot traffic is highest.

Designed for stair treads, perimeter picture-framing and raised deck edges, this board carries a heavy-duty 42mm drop-nose lip that forms a clean, safe bullnose and removes the need for separate corner angle trims. The top tread is finished with a deep 3D embossed woodgrain for anti-slip traction, running smoothly into a flat drop face.

The core is the same dense 60% recycled wood fibre and 40% high-density plastic blend used across our range. The cap is bonded during manufacture rather than applied afterwards, which prevents lifting, peeling or delamination over time.

Board Sizes & Specifications

  • Length: 2200mm (2.2m)
  • Top Tread Width: 145mm
  • Board Depth: 21mm
  • Drop Lip Depth: 42mm
  • Weight: approx. 6.2kg per board
  • Usage: Edging, stair treads, risers & picture-frame borders

How It Performs On Steps

Stains and spills: Step edges take the brunt of heavy footfall, BBQ drips and outdoor mess. The non-porous shield means oils, mud and drinks wipe straight off rather than soaking in, which shows all the more on a lighter tone. Where uncapped step trims absorb grime, this Elite nosing simply wipes clean.

Colour Consistency: The Champagne Light Oak tone is UV-locked during manufacture, so the light oak finish you fit is the light oak finish you keep. It matches your Champagne Light Oak deck boards from day one with no weathering-in period.

Surface Scuffs & Safety: Step edges take heavy foot impact, and the durable cap stands up to boots, furniture scrapes and pets. Underfoot, the deeply embossed woodgrain tread gives reliable anti-slip grip in wet UK conditions.

Looking after it: An occasional wipe-down with warm soapy water and a soft broom is all it needs. No staining, painting or annual sealing.

Fitting & Sub-frame Requirements

Step nosing installations take a bit more sub-frame preparation than standard flat decking:

300mm Joist Centres: Stair risers and step joist centres must not exceed 300mm apart to ensure full structural support and keep the 15-year warranty valid.

Front Overhang Support: Always ensure the step nosing overhang is fully supported underneath by a double joist or timber noggin directly below the step edge.

Step Geometry: Pairing 1 step nosing board with 1 standard 145mm Elite board behind it creates a comfortable ~290mm step tread depth. Combined with a 145mm vertical riser board, this gives a standard ~190mm step rise without needing to cut down their length on site.

Compatible Clip Systems:

  • Starter Clips: Ideal for securing the front overhang or starting the first board on a step tread.
  • Stainless Steel X-Clips: Preferred hidden fixing for a tight 3–4mm joint, perfect for vertical step risers and step nosing seams.
  • Stainless Steel T-Clips: Standard hidden fixings used along the rear grooved edge to join the main deck boards.
  • Plastic T-Clips: A budget option for domestic step and decking installations.

Where It’s Used

Champagne Light Oak step nosing is a favourite for bright, contemporary gardens, coastal and garden-room decks, and any scheme built around lighter render, cream walls or pale timber tones. It is the pick for anyone who wants a warm, natural light-oak look with total safety underfoot and zero ongoing maintenance.

15-Year Guarantee & Technical Support

Every Elite step nosing carries our full 15-year domestic and commercial guarantee (subject to the 300mm joist spacing requirement).
