Composite decking in Bristol garden

Why composite decking suits Bristol gardens

Bristol sits in a bowl. The annual rainfall figure isn’t unusually high (Bristol Airport records about 850mm a year), but the city holds damp in a way that surprises people. Gardens that don’t get direct sun from October through March stay wet well into spring, and timber decking in those conditions rots from underneath and grows algae on top. Composite is a completely different material. Our boards are made from recycled wood fibre bound with HDPE plastic, so water doesn’t penetrate the board the way it does with timber. No rot, no splinters, no annual staining. Bristol’s housing stock is famously varied, from Georgian terraces in Clifton and Redland to Victorian rows through Totterdown and Montpelier, post-war semis in Bishopston, and new-builds out towards Emersons Green. Composite works across all of them. Boards are fully reversible, moulded woodgrain (Woodsman+) on one side, contemporary wide-groove (Active+) on the other.

Composite decking delivery to Bristol

For Bristol and the wider BS postcode area, delivery is free on all deck kits and generally lands within 2-3 working days of ordering. We use a kerbside service, which means the boards come off the lorry onto your driveway or the pavement outside. If you’re in one of the tighter central streets (Cliftonwood, Hotwells, Totterdown’s steep bits) or in an apartment block with restricted lorry access, flag it when you order and we’ll work out the best approach. We’d rather get it right first time than turn up in a 7.5-tonne vehicle to somewhere it can’t turn round. For Bristol customers who do want to collect in person, our Paignton yard is open Monday to Friday. Most don’t bother given the distance and the free delivery, but it’s there if you need it.

Common questions from Bristol customers

Yes. There’s no splintering and no chemical treatment that pets could react to. Dark colours can get warm in direct summer sun (true of any dark outdoor surface), so lighter colours like Stone Grey are worth considering if you’ve got a dog that’ll be out there a lot, especially useful for Bristol gardens that back onto parks or green spaces.

Yes. Most Bristol gardens have some slope to them, and the sub-frame does the levelling. For steeper slopes (common around Totterdown, Windmill Hill and parts of Clifton) you’ll be building a raised deck with posts, and we can advise on what you’ll need on top of the standard kit: step nosings, fascia skirting and corner trims.

Every kit includes boards, all fixings, starter clips and a driver bit for your drill. If you need additional items (step nosings for a raised deck, fascia skirting for a clean edge, L-profile corner trims) we stock those too and they ship on the same delivery at no extra cost.

Honest answer: we supply commercial-grade solid composite boards with a 15-year guarantee. Big-box retailers mostly stock domestic-grade hollow boards at lower price points. If you want something that lasts 20+ years, commercial-grade is worth the extra. If budget is the main driver, the cheaper option might suit fine, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise.
